The United States Department of the Treasury sanctioned Ahmad-Reza Radan in September 2010 for serious human rights violations. According to the Department’s statement, as the Deputy Commander of the Law Enforcement Force, he was responsible for “beatings,” “killings,” and the “detention of protesters” during the post-2009 presidential election protests, as well as the incidents at the Kahrizak detention center.

The European Union sanctioned Ahmad-Reza Radan in April 2011 for widespread and severe violations of Iranian citizens’ rights and serial killings. Based on the EU statement, in his capacity as Deputy Commander of the Law Enforcement Force, he played a role in “beatings,” “murder,” “arbitrary detentions,” and the “arrest of protesters” by police forces during the protests following the 2009 elections.

The Government of Canada sanctioned Ahmad-Reza Radan in September 2024, along with four other officials of the Islamic Republic who are directly responsible for implementing repressive and discriminatory policies against women, girls, and minorities. The sanctions regulations prohibit listed dealings with these individuals and freeze their assets in Canada. Furthermore, under Canadian immigration law, these individuals are deemed inadmissible and are banned from entering the country.
